Opened in 1943, this 2,590-metric-ton bridge, constructed of high tensile steel, is one of the busiest bridges in the world. Apart from the stormy weather of the Bay of Bengal region, it successfully bears the weight of daily traffic of approximately 80,000 vehicles and, possibly, more than 1,000,000 pedestrians. You can get a boat or a ferry, particularly in the evenings — the view is beautiful when the bridge is lit up. Vidyasagar Setu, also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge, is a bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It links the city of Howrah to its twin city of Kolkata. The design for the bridge was laid down by a German Structuring and Consulting firm, Schlaich Bergermann & Partner. LED lamps and an electronic toll collection system was also scheduled to help with the traffic flow across the bridge.

The Victoria Memorial is the most impressive reminder of the British Raj to be found in India. Commissioned by Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India, the white beauty gets its name since it was designed to commemorate the demise of Queen Victoria back in 1901. The Court of Directors of the East India Company sent a dispatch in July 1854 to the Governor-General of India in Council, suggesting the establishment of the Universities of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay.

This 130 year old flower market, the largest in Kolkata, and one of the biggest in Asia. People travel all over the city and suburbs to sell flowers here. Located right under the southeast end of the Howrah bridge, the market runs along the riverside. This market is an amazing sensory experience. A ghat built in 1841 during the British Raj, along the Kolkata bank of the Hooghly River in India. The Palladian porch in the memory of the eminent Anglo-Indian scholar and antiquary James Prinsep was designed by W. Fitzgerald and constructed in 1843. The monument to Prinsep is rich in Greek and Gothic inlays and one of the oldest recreational spots of Kolkata. It has illuminated and landscaped gardens and pathways, fountains, and renovated ghats. There is also a railway station named after the same along with a jetty nearby called the Man-O-War jetty that belongs to the Kolkata Port Trust and commemorates the role played by the port in the Second World War.

Cathedral of Anglican background in Kolkata, noted for its Gothic architecture, is the seat of the Diocese of Calcutta. The cornerstone was laid in 1839; the building was completed in 1847. It is said to be the largest cathedral in Kolkata and the first Episcopal Church in Asia. It was also the first cathedral built in the overseas territory of the British Empire. The edifice stands on Cathedral Road on the "island of attractions" to provide for more space for the growing population of the European community in Calcutta in the 1800s.

Located at Dhartamtalla Street, the mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage. This building was built in 1842 by Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the youngest son of Tipu Sultan. Unlike usual Islamic culture, people from all sections of society and religions are obliged to visit and take pictures of this historical premises.

Regarded as one of the holiest of the 51 Shakti Peeths on Earth, the Kalighat Kali Temple is a must visit place in Kolkata due to its history and legend. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali and is located by the banks of Adi Ganga, which is a small canal that connects to the Hooghly River. The canal is named Adi Ganga as it used to be the original course of the Hooghly River and ‘Adi’ means original. The temple is open between 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the morning and 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM during the evening.

Located on the west bank of Hooghly River, Belur, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda. This temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna Movement and one of the significant institutions. The temple is notable for its architecture that fuses Christian, Islamic, Hindu and Buddhist art motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions.
